Gilmore Girls- Review

Gilmore Girls

Welcome to the charming little town of Stars Hollow! The small yet lively town that is sure to amuse you with its daily happenings. Looking for a few things to do on your visit? Why not peruse through some furniture at Kim’s antiques, or grab a bite at Al’s pancake world (where ironically, they sell everything but pancakes), or stop by Luke’s diner for your daily caffeine fix, or simply plant yourself in the town gazebo which overlooks the shenanigans of this tiny crazy town. But if you really wanna make the most of this visit, come see the Gilmore girls! The ultimate mother-daughter duo who practically run this delightful town.

Gilmore girls follows the story of 32-year-old Lorelai Gilmore who moved to Stars Hollow at the young age of 16 with nothing but hopes of a fresh start and her newborn daughter, Rory. Since then, Lorelai has raised Rory, who is now 16, as a single mother with the help of the endearing people in this little town.

Capable of finding the solutions to the toughest curveballs that her life throws her, Lorelai does find herself in a fix when Rory gets accepted into the prestigious school of Chiton. Being unable to afford its tuition, she turns to her rich, high class parents for help. They demand to be a part of Rory’s life in exchange for her tuition payments and the Gilmore circle is complete.

This show then follows the combined and individual paths of both Gilmores as they navigate the troubled waters of adulthood, college, finances, love and the drama that comes along with all of it. These two-caffeine dependent, pop culture referencing, fast talking girls get through the toughest hurdles that life has to offer just as long as they have each other by their side.

The seven-season long sitcom is heartwarming and hysterical yet will still tug on your heart strings. The consistent use of the girls’ humor throughout the show will never fail to surprise you and neither will their never-ending love for pizza and classic movies. In my opinion, Gilmore girls is the perfect show to binge with your family and is a great watch for everyone. Their daily antics will surely be the perfect way for you to spend binge day.

But like almost every long running sitcom Gilmore girls did have its off seasons. It starts off strong for its initial three-four seasons but then witnesses a dip in creative storyline. The mother-daughter dynamic is interrupted, leading to a decline in audience retention. The show however does manage to get back on its feet for the final season.

And if you still aren’t satisfied with the ending you could move on to its reunion spinoff- Gilmore girls: A year in the life, which takes place nine years after the original went off air. The revival continues to take place in Stars Hollow following the four seasons of fall, spring, summer and winter while reuniting the girls to catch up on life after being apart for a while.

All in all, the show is a solid 8/10 in my book. I deduct the two points due to the conclusion of two of the show’s storylines, one in the original and one in the revival. Shh, no spoilers though, so I won’t say! But other than that, be sure to check out this wonderful show for a good time.
